Team Singapore Girl Power

If you haven't heard of the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), the first ever game was hosted by Bangkok, Thailand in 1959. And after 44 years, the 27th SEA Games was hosted by Myanmar from 11 to 22 Dec 2013, at the Capital Naypyitaw and Yangon recently!!!

The two main objectives of the SEA games:
1) To improve the friendship among SEAP Countries.
2) To compete with higher level in Asian and Olympic Games using their skills and performance to Youth in the region.

Therefore, in 1959, to celebrate the 1st SEAP Games was decided in Bangkok, Thailand and to organize it between the period of Asian and Olympic Games once in every two years.

There were a massive number of sports included this year, and to name a couple of them: Badminton, Basketball, Wrestling, Archery, Football, Canoeing, Judo and many others.

Not forgetting to mention, the impressive results our female athletes have achieved! Let's all bask in the glory of our winning teams from Singapore!

-

Anyway sidetrack - Have I ever mentioned how I used to be in Athletics when I was in primary school? And I took part in all the Sport's Carnivals from the age of 9-16.

And I've received 5 Silver Medals, 6 Gold Medals, and 3 Bronze Medals - mainly for 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. Hahaha, I'm such a showoff. Can't stand it.

BUT C'MON, it's just one of the only few times... Get over it.

Ok, I've to stop stealing the limelight. Back to the girls who did us proud!

Here are some of the outstanding results:

Archery: Chan Jing Ru – First Lady Archer To Win Individual Gold for Singapore In 30 Years (Click here to read more)

Rowing: Saiyidah Aisyah – The only rower representative at the  27th SEA Games. The 25-year old is the first rower to win Gold since the 1997 SEA Jakarta Games, (Click here to read more)

Cycling: Dinah Chan – First Gold medal in Cycling since the 1997 Jakarta SEA Games. Her win was inspiring as she had recently just bounced back from an accident where she collided with a car along East Coast Park during one of her training sessions on 16 Sep this year. (Click here to read more)

Shooting: Nicole Tan – SEA Games debutant who won an individual Gold in the 25m Pistol event. Nicole Tan also teamed up with Teh Xiu Hong and Teo Shun Xie in the team women's 25m pistol (rapid fire) event. Singapore get team silver with 1,699 points. (Click here to read more)

Equestrian: Janine Khoo – Only 16 years of age but already a Gold medalist in the individual Jumping event. It was Singapore’s first Equestrian Gold since the 1995 Chiang Mai Games. (Click here to read more)

Swimming: Amanda Lim – Fastest swimmer in the SEA region for the 3rd time and setting a new Games record of 25.69s. (Click here to read more)

Athletics: Dipna Lim Prasad – Bronze in the 400m Hurdles. Singapore first-ever medal in the event. She also sets a new National Record and records her personal best with the time of 59.56s.

I'm really impressed! Especially Dinah’s (the cyclist) “Nothing is Impossible” positive attitude; many would've given up or lost hope in her situation, but her perseverance didn't go in vain, I'm so glad she hung on and won ultimately!

It saddens me how women are usually stereotyped as the "weaker ones" compared to men, but I beg to differ!

Men in general can be physically stronger compared to many women, but that doesn't mean that all girls are incompetent! Guess the results shows it all.

Time, commitment, and lots of hard work have been put in in order to attain these spectacular results, amazing girl power!!!

Since we are talking about sports, the 7th ASEAN PARA games 2014, Myanmar will commence on the 14th of January this year.

Not only are there big competitions for the abled-bodied athletes, there are also competitions for the disabled athletes who are as passionate as them. One of which is the ASEAN Para Games, which is hosted traditionally by the same country and sport venue where the Southeast Asian Games takes place. This is to cater to para-athletes with mobility and visual disabilities.

I find this really meaningful and encouraging, as it is an opportunity for the physically disabled to be a part of their favorite sport. Showing their passion, working towards their aim and not be disheartened by their disabilities. Really look upon their positivity and becoming stronger as a person. Let’s all support the Team Singapore athletes who will be taking part, together!

These are two of the participants:
Yip Pin Xu – Team Singapore Para Swimmer
Nurulasyiqah Md Taha – Team Singapore Boccia Player

(Click here) to watch a video and find out more about how they have been an inspiration to people around them!
You can also follow our athletes’progress at the ASEAN Para Games on www.Facebook.com/TeamSG and show your support via #ourteamsg!

In red to show my support!!!

Positivity.

They say, "expect the unexpected," but I guess one of the things that you can hardly foresee is the extent one can go when they start feeling attached to someone.

To me, attachment is actually worse than falling in love. Cos falling out of love hurts, but trying to detach yourself from something/someone you're already so used to having around you... Eats you alive.

We meet new people every once in awhile, and I guess never have we imagined how someone could somewhat, miraculously turn into a person who would mean so much to us, all of a sudden.

We start talking to them almost every single day, have long phone calls till we fall asleep at night, all the "goodnight" and "good morning" messages, going on dates, missing that person the moment you guys are separated at the end of the day, a simple text from them could change your mood instantly, the things they say could easily keep you thinking all day, you start learning to trust and believe in this person, feelings begin to kick in, you guys become closer... From friends to lov... Maybe not.

I guess that sucks; an awkward status of "almost dating," everything starts to fall apart after you've developed your feelings for someone who doesn't actually feel the same way you do.

"I thought... but" isn't that always the case??? "I thought blablabla could be trusted, but..." "I thought blablabla was the right one, but..."

This is what I loathe; thoughts and feelings.

Thinking it was mutual when it's not, feeling it was right when it isn't.

You start living in self-denial, convincing yourself you're fine, until you realise how attached you actually were... Initially, it is like the calm before the storm, it's only when reality starts to settle in after the first couple of days... You then begin to feel uneasy without their presence, their texts, their calls... That's the sucky part of attachment to me.

Getting used to someone, having them there all the time... And when they are gone, it feels like you've lost a part of yourself.

Yeah, it has come to a point where this actually scares me; it scares me to start getting close to someone, because the thought of them walking out and leaving all these memories behind to haunt me, it's just petrifying - You don't feel like doing anything, your thoughts are all over the place... Oh man, I bet someone's able empathise with me.

But I guess everything will be okay at the end of the day. Looking back at a year ago, the things that happened on this date... I bet you couldn't even remember what you had for lunch, like how I didn't think I'd still be alive and kickin'?

If you're feeling down today because of something or someone that's not worth brooding over, think about how much better you'd be if you could stop allowing it to affect you.

Make yourself happy and conquer the situation... Don't let it control you.

I don't know what's with all my random thoughts these days, but to compensate for the lack of updates over the past 2 days... Here are some pics!

First two days of school were really exhausting, because of how tired I am from gym the nights before and insufficient sleep. Gotta rest early today. On a brighter note, I absolutely enjoy being in school. Mainly because I've learnt a lot of new stuff I've interest in. I suspect my friends think I'm a freak.

Great meal with my classmates after school today too!!! Loving Thai food is one thing, loving this place that serves the perfect Thai food is another. Even though it's such a pain in the ass how my school has limited amount of food, I feel fortunate that this is located just across the road.

Daily Skincare Routine (Night)

Been forever since I wanted to do this video, and I'm really sorry I took so long to get it done! Insecurities oh insecurities...

Disclaimer: I'm not saying I've perfect skin, just decided to talk about this since many of you have requested for it. And these are what I usually use, which work best for me. I won't guarantee the same results for all of you because our skin reacts differently.

Anyway, below are more information on the products shown in the video.

Left: Bioré Aqua Jelly Makeup Remover - $24.90
Available at all supermarkets and drugstores
Contains 1/3 moisturising essence which nourishes and hydrates
Non-greasy

Right: Bifesta Cleansing Sheet - $15.90 (46sheets per pack)
Available at Watsons
Gentle and refreshing water-based cotton sheets that thoroughly removes makeup and dirt.
100% oil free, tones & moisturises, suitable for all skin types.

-

1) Always remember to remove your makeup before you go to bed.

I'm aware that many girls actually don't possess this habit of doing so, especially after partying or when you're feeling really exhausted from a long day.

Personally, no matter how drunk or tired I am, I'll never skip this crucial step. Can you imagine how damaging it is to your skin to leave your makeup on while you sleep? I don't even wanna think about it.

So I guess one of the most essential things to having a good complexion, is to never be lazy!

The only reason to explain why I choose to cleanse my face twice is cos I'm really kiasu. I just think it's safer that way in order to prevent any residue from staying on my skin, you can drop the wipes if you want.

Left: Givenchy Clean It Tender Creamy Cleansing Foam - $43.90
Available at Sephora
Gently removes makeup, surface impurities and dead skin cells.
Moisturizing and softening the upper layers of the skin.

Right: Shiseido ELIXIR Superieur
Friend from Japan got it for me, and I don't think S'pore carries it, so apologies on that. However, I've been using it for 2 years now, and it's by far one of the best exfoliators I've ever used. Light, get rid of impurities from pores and helps to improve skin texture.

-

Exfoliating your skin once or twice a week brings you a step closer to healthier, smoother skin. Basically, what exfoliators do in general is to remove your dry skin cells and clarify any impurities; blackheads, whiteheads, and little clogged bumps on the skin, often on the forehead.

Murad Time Release Acne Cleanser - $46.90
Available at Sephora
Time Release Acne Cleanser’s low foaming formula delivers sustained-released acne medication and improves skin’s appearance.
Encapsulated salicylic acid technology provides a long-acting acne treatment that stays active even after rinsing.

-

This is the facial foam I've been using to cleanse my face with, every day and night for the past two months, I was using the clarifying cleanser previously for about a year, and I love both of them!

I definitely prefer my current one as it contains more benefits, but I'd recommend the clarifying cleanser if you want something that's more gentle to your skin.

I'd highly recommend Murad if you're looking for products that treat acne problems!

Anyway, water alone is never enough! Finding a suitable cleansing foam, and using it diligently helps to prevent breakouts, clogged pores and many other harmful effects in the long run.

Albion EXAGE Moist Crystal Milk I - $82 (200g)

Feathery light and great for daytime use, this milky gel moisturiser help fight visible signs of ageing while soothing botanicals hydrate your complexion all day long.
Encourages suppler skin for a more youthful appearance.

Type II - For Normal to Combination to Dry Skin

Albion Skin Conditioner ESSENTIAL Lotion - $86 (165ml)
Available at Takashimaya.
Delivers moisture to UV ray-damaged skin and dry skin and brings out the skin's innate luminosity and translucence.
Skin becomes moist and smooth after use, keeps skin firm, glowing and moist.

-

Personally, I rely too much on my doctor's prescription for years, and all these moisturisers blablabla seemed rather redundant to me, until I heard so many people raving about these products. Especially the Skin Conditioner - How it prevents the invasion of pimples, regulates and improves skin metabolism etc.

Thought I give them a try.

I was told to use three pumps for the moisturiser and I seriously have no idea why until today, because I just couldn't! I actually hated this product for awhile, cos I felt like it was way too oily for my skin until I decided to give it a second try and reduced the amount I applied, and it was better.

As for the skin conditioner, I love the fact that it replaces the use of a regular mask and how it rejuvenates my skin. Definitely a much try!

Murad Clarifying Mask - $55.90
Available at Sephora
A natural clay-based clarifying beauty mask.
Helps absorb impurities while cleansing.
Contains sulfur to reduce acne severity. With zinc & licorice, helps comfort & calm irritated skin. Together with grape seed extract, prevents free radical damage.
Suitable for all skin types.

-

I guess my video already explains how much I love this product, and even though it's a little pricey for a small tube like this - It can actually last for a long time if you use it sparingly, twice a week like me!

My favourite of all, and if you could only afford to get one product - I'd definitely recommend this! Lol.

-

Alright, I hope you guys learnt something from this post, or at least enjoyed the sight of my bare face on my video. Hahaha, till next time!
