Salon Vim Bugis (Review)

Yay!!! Although it's just 3 more stops away, I still feel really glad that Salon Vim's new outlet is located at Bugis now!!! So freakin convenient for me compared to 313 Somerset.

Ok la, actually I'm just a lazy bum who refuses to change a train and go up 4 levels he he.

But anyway, the new salon is just right beside Bugis street!!! So you can go for some shopping or even get food when you're hungry. Especially people like me who gets hungry 24/7

To all those people who think my hair is perf.... Wait till you see this piece of mess right below!!!

Damn disgusting right. Hahahaha. BUT WAIT, it's also bcos it's partially drenched from the rain so it looks a bit like...

Kidding, I don't see any resemblance.............. Agree? :(

So anyway I decided to go for a light colour this time. So I told Jamie (My new hair stylist, who is also one of the directors there.) that I wanted an ash colour and hopefully it will turn out like...
I love her so much?!?!?!?! Just in case you don't know her, she's Alison Dilaurentis from PLL or more formally known as Sasha Pieterse.

Yea I know I look nowhere near her... If her level of prettiness is heaven-high, I prolly rank hell hahahaha.

But anyway, something like Goldilocks colour?! Like what my girlfriend keeps harping on. Haiya, you guys should get the rough idea by now.

Proceeded to bleaching first. Although my hair doesn't look red anymore, there's definitely hell loads of it hidden somewhere ok?! I had to bleach twice.

Just in case you're wondering what are those aluminium foils doing on my hair, they are my pink extensions which I did 2-3 weeks back and are still in good shape!!! Hehe.

Idk what is this part for or called, but I guess it's to "help" your hair absorb the bleach??? Ignorant me is ignorant.

TADA MY ATTEMPT TO GOLDILOCKS HAIR. Ok just kidding, I look like Sun wu kong (Monkey god) here or Haley Williams gone wrong.

I thought I looked like a clown, explains the expression.

After two times of bleaching, and washing my hair... It's finally time to put on my desired ash colour! *Excited*

Jaime told me this was a must-apply serum before dyeing bcos it helps to protect my hair, although I felt like my hair's pretty much beyond redemption. :X

WHOOOOO HOOOOO after 6 hours of sitting and standing and and and anticipating... Don't judge my face please... At least now you know I look horrible bald.

Here is it!

So pleased! And they made sure I had pretty hair before I left although it was quite redundant bcos I headed home right after that. LOL.

YAY!!!! Thank you so much Jamie!

And not to mention, the service at Salon Vim, as usual was just awesome?! Poor me haven't had any food since lunch the day before, so one of the hairstylists kindly went to get takeaway for me!!! How sweet.

Of course, I'm talking about other stuff as well like how they really listen attentively to your needs and try their best to work it out for you.

Not to mention, there's a toilet in the salon now hahahahahaha. So you don't have to worry about spending forever doing your hair.

Next 4 pictures were taken without any filter!! & The first without flash.

The top had a lighter tone to it, which is pretty close to ash blonde and the bottom colour was what I requested for :)

Salon V has never ever disappointed me!

Products they gave me to condition my hair and retain my hair colour! :)

See how lazy I am.... to write down the details, so I took a pic from the name card hahahaah.

Visit their website for more info salonvimbychezvous.com.sg and do make an apt before heading down! :)

P/s Actually this is just round one of my hair... Which means it isn't the final colour. Can you guess what I'm doing next? Can't wait!

NYP (Open house 2013)

Well, as you can see from my previous two posts, I've been to Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) recently and today's my third time there as I wanted to get to know a little more on the school facilities as well as the other diplomas that the school offers.

Be greeted with awesome goodie bigs when you reach NYP, just by registering at the Visitors' Registration booth.

So let me share with you guys some of the info I've garnered!

Spoke to some of the course advisors from the different schools and also saw some really interesting exhibits!

Remember the course advising will be available after you receive your O level results too, so make sure you visit NYP then!

So first I proceeded to the school of Chemical & Life Sciences and there was an Ice cream competition going on with secondary schools competing in the finals. I had an awesome time tasting the ice creams!

It was a NYP-Swensen's Yummy Healthy Ice cream making competition going on at Blk N (N611). This cool competition started some time back with 37 schools participating, and there were 10 secondary schools shortlisted for the finals. I was just in time for the judging! :P

30 Contestants created flavors like pumpkin, sweet potato mushroom and dragon fruit ice creams, which are in line with the healthy theme!

Everyone was expecting Yuying Secondary or CHIJ St. Nicholas Girl's Secondary school to win...

However, verdict was... NUS high won!!! Not surprising, they came up with really good ice cream! ^^

This was one of the coolest experiences ever?! I was learning how to make bubbles like those you see in your bubble tea. Hahaha.

Not easy at all though... I gave it a try and it was definitely a failed attempt. Mine looked as if they were poop from a lizard or something -_-

Besides those that I've mentioned, I also learnt about Food Marketing!

A few of the students in Chemical & Life Sciences brought me to tour around the school and I gained more knowledge of how medicines are prescribed and made.

Checking out some fungi under the microscope...

Parasites which looked like worms........

Learning how tablets are made...

Projects done by the year 3 students at the exhibition... So cute lol.

Conducting the qualitative analysis.

Took a picture (below). I don't know which lab professor actually looks as unprofessional as me.

I gotta find out how they actually deal with the patients and cater to their needs. It's definitely a challenging but rewarding profession.

I also visited their diagnostic radiography labs equipped with latest digital X-ray systems and discovered how digital images were formed.

Besides conducting their activities in school, these students get to be exposed to real life situations in hospitals during their attachment year, in year 3.

Also took a pic at the nearby Wacky Photo Booth where you can stand a chance to win $50 H&M vouchers. Free Chupa Chups were given away too!!

I got a taste of the lively diversity of CCAs too. From hip hop dancing and martial arts, to orchestral and vocal performances. It was definitely thrilling! Did you know that NYP has over 80 CCAs??? And you can even form your own too!

Massive crazy crowd of people who came for the open house as well!

Some other CCAs and facilities they have

The gym

Chinese Orchestra

Track and Field

Dance Company

Canoeing

Malay Cultural Group

Rock Climbing!

Dragon Boat!

SoundCard

Foreign Bodies

Taekwondo

Lastly, there are also tons of interesting things to see, eat and buy!!!!

I also had some time to tour their many facilities such as; Koufu food court (air-conditioned), North and South Canteen, Fast food Canteen (Mcdonald's and more!), Library cafe and the new restaurant which is to be ready by mid-2013, serving fusion-style cusine :)

Moreover, I heard that Subway will be coming up soon too, my fav fast food restaurant.... :D

Some common hang out places like the eco-friendly garden and the supa relaxing and entertaining library!

Library

Library Cafe

As if this wasn't already great, I heard that NYP is expanding and upgrading its campus soon and there will be even more facilities coming your way soon! Hence, the classes of 2013 will be able to enjoy the latest facilities! Awesome much??

Besides, the new free Shuttle bus service catered to students sounds like the best thing ever.

Remember to visit NYP's Open House on the 7th & 8th from 11am to 6pm daily. You can also 'Like' their NYP Facebook page and visit their website to discover more!

Hope you guys can have much fun as I did!

Nanyang Polytechnic (SIDM)

So previously, I wrote about my experience about NYP's School of Business Management (SBM) and today I'm gonna share with you guys a little more on...

SCHOOL OF INTERACTIVE & DIGITAL MEDIA

I'm definitely not a gamer but there's something about this course that I thought was pretty cool.

They have everything you need to create the special effects and animation you see in games & movies. From creating your first concept art piece to turning it into an actual animation... I finally got to see how it works....

This was where I was taught how images are usually captured and transformed into games with current technology. *fascinated*

Although I'm more into writing than programming, I thought it was interesting to find out how games & movies are actually produced.

I've always been really curious about how all these work and finally my doubts were cleared.

So what happens is that, a person would usually wear a bodysuit with dots that will be detected on the screen, and the person will do some movements so that the computer can record it. That is how they animate the characters that they've designed!

Zack below conducted a demo for us! He's a student at SIDM

Apparently, you'll get to learn how to create animation and effects you see in blockbuster movies like Ratatouille, Kung Fu Panda, and Madagascar 2!

The lecturer told me that besides having professional software to work on, students are also taught by experts who provide services to companies like Pixar, Disney and Lucasfilm! Wow..

Some of the artwork done by the year 1 & 2 students...

I really couldn't believe it when they told me that the work were drawn. They totally looked as if they were printed. haha. And what's the best part? Having an art background isn't compulsory bcos everything will be taught from basics.

I guess that's when your passion comes in. When you're determined to do something, you'll succeed eventually as long as you persevere. :)

Besides Digital Media Design (Games) or Digital Entertainment Technology (Games)... you can also pursue a Diploma in Digital Visual Effects or Motion Graphics and Broadcast Design.

Apparently, students will have the opportunity to be attached to USA where they are trained by Hollywood studio experts! And the school has some sort of partnership with Sony PlayStation®  whereby students will be taught how to develop PlayStation® like games.

Plus NYP is known for their motion graphics and programming of games!!! I guess it's what most boys desire???? (Not stereotyping here. Haha.)

There are also 2 other full time courses to choose from!

Diploma in Digital Media Design (Interaction Design)
Diploma in Digital Media Design (Animation)

Many of them studying in SIDM actually had a chance to showcase their work too. For instance, the motion graphics and on screen visuals from last year's National Day Parade (2012) were painstakingly done by and produced by SIDM students as well. They did very well at WorldSkills Singapore 2012 and they also work closely with MTV Asia!

And many of them actually had the opportunity to go abroad for their courses... How awesome can that be.

Some of the professions you get become include Visual Effects Artist, Film Production specialist, Technical Director, Game Designer, Storyboard Artist, Animation Producer, Illustrator. Cool huh :)

Normally when a school like this is so well known for their digital media skills, I would think their graduates will do well. ... And many of them have jobs in Lucasfilm Animation, Infinite Frameworks, WETA Digital, Ubisoft, and Blizzard Entertainment, USA... awesome huh?!

One of the many award-winning videos done by them...

The whole learning experience was definitely worthwhile! ;)

Do check out (SIDM) for more info!
